Rules & Regulation

General

  • The OSIM Singapore International Triathlon 2011 (OSIT) is sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), and the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS) and is organized in accordance with the rules of ITU, ASTC and TAS. The OSIM Singapore International Triathlon is part of the 2011 ITU Continental Series and Asian Cup Series.
  • Completion of the race entry form evidences the Participants' agreement to abide by the relevant rules and regulations of the ITU, ASTC, TAS and OSIT. These rules apply at the material time and to all and any ruling of the Organizer's, TAS and Singapore Sports Council (SSC).
  • Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organizers to ensure the participants' safety, participants partake in this event at their own risk and the Organizers shall not be liable for any bodily injuries, loss and/or damage to property, whether personal or otherwise, and howsoever arising.
  • Any disputes arising from the participation in the OSIM Singapore International Triathlon 2011 shall be referred to Arbitration and to be conducted in Singapore under the law of the Singapore Courts.
  • The Organizers reserve the right to use any photographs, motion picture, recordings, or any other record of this race and its participants for any commercial advertising including legitimate purpose.
  • The Organizers reserve the right to limit and/or refuse entries without assigning any reason thereof.
  • TAS will only accept the first 3,800 entries by/before the registration closing date stated on www.triathlon.sg. The Standard Distance Triathlon category is limited to the first 1,200 entries.
  • Once the registration form has been duly processed, there will be no fee refund for those who fail to turn up for the race and/or withdraw from it.
  • The Organizers will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete/wrong entry details given by the participants.
  • On-the-spot entries will not be entertained.
  • Entry forms that are incomplete will not be accepted. A Race Confirmation Slip will be sent to registered email addresses after registration to confirm your race entry. Please inform the Organizers if you do not receive the Race Confirmation Slip by the Closing Date stated on www.triathlon.sg.
  • The race registration will only be confirmed when full payment of race registration fee has been made.
  • To ensure that your race details are correct, please check your particulars upon receipt of the Race Confirmation Slip and report the discrepancy from your intended registration within 48 hours after entry form has been submitted to the organizers. Any changes thereafter are subjected to an admin charge of $10.00 (GST is included).
  • Race category is non-interchangeable.
  • All participants should pick up their Race Kits that include a ChampionChip Timing Band, Event Handbook, Race Bib, Swim Cap, other Race essential items and Goodie Bag at the Triathlon Race Expo. Please check at www.triathlon.sg for the race expo dates and venue. Participants who do not collect their Race Entry Kit at the Triathlon Race Expo will not be allowed to race on the Race Day. (There will be no On-Site Registration on both the Race Days). We will however, give consideration for late collection to overseas participants who unable to attend due to their scheduled arrival in Singapore. Please send in your late collection request to contact@triathlonsingapore.org.
  • The details on the reverse side of your RACE BIB must be filled in to enable us to contact your next-of-kin in case of emergency.
  • As the ChampionChip Timing Band is a loan item, all participants are responsible to return the ChampionChip, both the Timing Chip and Band to the organizers immediately after the race. A $50 payment applies for any loss &/or damage to the ChampionChip, both the Timing Chip and Band.
  • The ChampionChip Timing Band is the sole means of race timing measurement.
    NO CHIP = NO TIMING = DNF (Did not finish).
  • All participants in both the Individual and/or Relay category must ensure that their ChampionChip Band are securely strapped to their left ankle before beginning on any leg of the race. Participants not adhering to the rule of strapping the ChampionChip Timing Band to their left ankle before the start of their race will be disqualified.
  • The Organizers will not be responsible for any inaccuracy in participant's race timings due to improper wearing of ChampionChip.
  • As there will not be any Race Briefing scheduled for the event, all participants are required to download the E-Briefing notes from www.triathlon.sg that contains essential race information and guides for the race.
  • Participant who wishes to protest against another competitor or notify a violation must do so in writing to the Organizers within 30 minutes of his/her finish time. All protests must be made in accordance with the existing ITU Rules. A deposit of SGD80/US$50 or equivalent must accompany the appropriate protest and will be refunded if the protest is successful.
  • The Transition Area will be opened at least 1 hour before the commencement of the race and participants shall place their bicycles at the designated location marked by their race numbers on the Bike Racks in the Transition Area. The bicycles are to be arranged according to the allocated numbers. All participants shall be ready and assembled at the Swim Start Holding Area 15 minutes prior to the Swim.
  • A grace period of 15 minutes after the commencement of the race will be given for latecomers. Anyone who reports later than this grace period will not be allowed to participate in the race. Latecomers should be aware that their timings would have commenced when the wave began.
  • Participants racing in the Kids Triathlon must be 7 -15 years old on 31 Dec 2011 to compete in the race.
  • Participants racing in the Mini must be 16 years old and above on 31 Dec 2011 to compete in the race.
  • Participants racing in the Sprint must be 16 years old and above on 31 Dec 2011 to compete in the race.
  • Participants racing in the Standard Distance Triathlon must be 18 years old and above on 31 Dec 2011 to compete in the race.
  • Relay disciplines are non-transferable among the team members and is not replaceable by another person.
  • For the mixed relay team. Each team must consist of at least one member of the opposite sex.
  • All participants in relay teams are responsible for passing their ChampionChip Timing Band to their teammates at designated areas after completing their respective legs. Passing of ChampilonChip Timing Band outside of the designated area would result in immediate disqualification. In other words, the swimmer will have to hand over the Timing Band to the cyclist at the designated area before the cyclist collects his/her bike. The cyclist will have to rack his/her bike before handling over the Timing Band to the runner at the designated area.

 

 

Swim Trial (New & Important)

  • The swim trial is compulsory for all participants who are First Timer swimming in the open water competition. For relay team, it is only applicable to swimmers who are First Timer swimming in the open water competition.
  • The swim trial is including One Pool Session & One Open Water Swim Clinic. The participants have to pass the Pool Session before they are allowed to take the Open Water Swim Clinic.
  • An admin fee will be charge to applicable participants at SGD9 for each Pool Session and SGD15 for each Open Water Swim Clinic. The admin fee is strictly non-refundable.
  • The participants have to pass one Pool Trial & one complete Open Water Swim Clinic to be qualified for the race entry to OSIM Singapore Triathlon 2011.
  • There are Six pool sessions and Four open water swim clinic scheduled for your choice. If the participant fails at the first attempt, you are still allowed to book for another trial session from the Swim Trial Schedule.
  • The participants have to complete the Swim Trial in Pool Session according to the criteria:

1. Kids Triathlon Swimming Distance 100m within 5 minutes and 200m within 8 minutes;

2. Mini Triathlon Swimming Distance within 8 minutes;

3. Sprint Triathlon Swimming Distance within 25 minutes;

4. Standard Triathlon Swimming Distance within 55 minutes.

  • Upon passing of the Pool Session, the participants have to attend one Open water swim clinic by training the full swimming distance of the respective categories.

1. Kids Triathlon Swimming 100m or 200m;

2. Mini Triathlon Swimming 200m;

3. Sprint Triathlon Swimming 750m;

4. Standard Triathlon Swimming 1.5km.

  • The participants who fail the Swim Trial in the end, the registration will be rejected and the race entry fee will be refunded.

 

 

Race Cut Off Time (New & Important)

  • For Kids, Mini & Sprint Triathlons, the cycling course will be closed at 1130 hrs. Contestants still on the cycling route after this will be stopped and asked to enter Transition Areas. They are allowed to continue with the run but will be classified as “DNF” (did not finish) in the result sheet. The participants in these categories have to complete the entire race by 1215 hrs (2 hours 15 mins). Contestants still on the running route after this will be stopped and asked to return to Transition Areas and they will be classified as “DNF” (did not finish) in the result sheet.

 

  • For Standard Distance Triathlon, the cycling course will be closed at 1315 hrs. Contestants still on the cycling course after this will be stopped and asked to enter Transition Areas. They are allowed to continue with the run but will be classified as “DNF” (did not finish) in the result sheet. The participants in these categories have to complete the entire race by 1530 hrs (4 hours 30 mins). Contestants still on the running route after this will be stopped and asked to return to Transition Areas and they will be classified as “DNF” (did not finish) in the result sheet.


 

Corporate Challenge

  • This challenge category is open to all who are physically fit and skillful enough to complete the listed distances without harming himself/herself. They must also be permanent full-time staff members of organizations in either the public or private sectors. Permanent full-time employees of all educational institutions are also eligible to participate.
  • All registrations must be endorsed by the organization they represent. There are no restrictions on the number of candidates from each organization. Please follow the instructions on the online application form regarding your endorsement.
  • The Corporate Challenge category is only available in Mini & Sprint distances.
  • Participants racing in the Corporate Challenge Triathlon must be 18 years old and above on race day to compete in the race.
  • Participant who are in the position of CEO, COO, HOD, MD or other top management levels are eligible to take part in Bosses Challenge category.
  • The Bosses Challenge category is only available in the Mini distance.
  • Every participant's result will be counted into the corporate challenge point system for final result of his/her organization.
  • The organization with the overall highest number of points will be the champion in this category.
  • The corporate challenge cup will be awarded to both overall champion organizations from the corporate and non profit organization category.
  • Non Profit organization category applies to all societies, ministries, statutory boards, uniform groups, etc.

 

Swimming

  • Swimsuits must be worn.
  • All swimmers must wear the swim caps provided by the Organizers.
  • Swim goggles may be worn.
  • Fins, paddles, pool buoys, snorkels or any other swimming aids are not allowed.
  • Wet suits are not allowed.
  • Support crews are not allowed.
  • No persons other than the participants and officials are permitted in the swimming area.
  • Swimmers in difficulty shall signal to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance.
  • For the Standard Distance Events (used to be called Olympic Distance), the swimming course will be closed 50 minutes after the start of the Race. Contestants still in the water after this will not be allowed to continue the race.
  • All warming-up for the swim must be conducted within the designated area.

 

Cycling

  • Cyclists must ensure that their competition numbers are clearly visible at the back of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • Bare torso is NOT allowed.
  • The Bicycle number tag must be properly secured on the left side of seat-stay OR seat post.
  • The Helmet number tags must be clearly displayed on the FRONT, LEFT & RIGHT side of the helmet.
  • Participant may run or walk with his bicycle.
  • Cyclists are to keep to the left side of the road unless overtaking and are reminded to observe traffic rules at all times. Overtaking on the left of a cyclist is dangerous and should not be allowed.
  • All participants will have to perform their own repairs if their bicycles should breakdown. Changing of bicycles is only permitted at designated point(s).
  • Support vehicles and crews are not permitted.
  • All cyclists must wear helmets approved by the following recognized testing authorities: American National Standard Institute (ANSI Z-90.4), Snell Memorial Foundation & National Swedish Board of Consumer Policy.
  • The helmet must be worn before the cyclist remove his/her bicycle from the bicycle rack and has to stay on the cyclist's head until he/she has placed his/her bicycle back securely at the allocated spot on the bicycle rack.
  • All participants are encouraged to have their bicycles inspected by professional bicycle shops before their race. It is the participants' responsibility to ensure that their bicycles and bicycle brakes are in good working condition. Please note that only the participants racing in the Elite categories will have their bicycles inspected prior to the start of the race.
  • No drafting is allowed except for the participants racing in the Elite categories.
  • No Cycling is allowed on the Cycling Course once the Elite Race has started. Contestants still on the Course will be withdrawn and not be allowed to continue in the race.
  • For Elites Category, the aero bar must not be extended further than the line drawn between the two brake levers. For Age Group Categories, the aero bar can be extended further but it must not be more than 15cm from the front wheel axle.


 

Running

  • Runners must wear their race numbers in front at all times during the run.
  • Support vehicles or pacers are not allowed.
  • Runners must run on the designated path for the entire route. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
  • No Running with bare torso.

 

Inclement Weather

  • In the event of inclement weather, the Organizers reserve the right to delay the commencement of the race.
  • Should the inclement weather persist after delay, the Organizers reserve the right to cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.

 

Medical Advisory

  • The sport of triathlon is physically demanding. If you are not sure of your physical health, please seek the advice of a medical professional before you register for the race.
  • Participants are advised against the consumption of alcohol or stimulants or any kind of drugs within 24 hours of their race.
  • Participants are to ensure that they are well-rested and well-hydrated on day of race.
  • Participants are advised to dress lightly.
  • Should any participant feel unwell in the course of race, he/she should stop and seek immediate medical attention at designated medical posts.

 

The Organizers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable (i.e. severe physical harm) of continuing the race.
