It is the participants' responsibility to ensure that their bicycles and bicycle brakes are in good working condition. Please note that only the participants taking part in the Elite categories will have their bicycles inspected prior to the start of the race.

8.What is drafting?

Drafting occurs when an athlete follows closely in the path of another athlete or vehicle on the course, so as to be physically assisted because of the slip steaming effect created by the person or vehicle in front. If you are riding within 4 metres of someone's back wheel or you are riding next to someone, within 2 metres, you are drafting.

9.Is drafting allowed in OSIM Singapore International Triathlon 2011?

No drafting is allowed except for participants racing in the Elite categories. For the other category races, drafting on the cycle leg is against the rules of the sport. Drafting in a non-drafting race is cheating. It provides an unfair advantage to the drafting athlete. It can be compared to taking a short cut, not completing the requisite number of laps, or starting before the start gun fires.

10.Is it compulsory to wear a cycling helmet during the bicycle section of the race?

For your own safety, cycling helmets are compulsory during the cycle leg of the race. The helmet must be securely fastened at all times when the competitor is in possession of the bicycle, i.e., from the time they remove their bicycle from the rack at the start of the cycle, until after they have placed their bicycle on the rack at the finish of the cycle.
